• Back to blogging!  After an extremely long hiatus, I am getting back started with routine blogging.  It won’t be a daily thing, but hopefully it will be a few times per week.  We finally upgraded our computer.  One of the main reason I have been away from blogging was the fact that our laptop (and only) computer was not doing very well.  It didn’t get along with this website, and downloading Firefox (and others) proved to be challenging or not possible.  The only shot I had at blogging was from my work computer, but that was limited to my brief lunch breaks.
  • Another relentless winter.  Not so much the snow, although it is snowing today, but rather the brutal cold temps for long periods.  Most everyone that is reading this knows a Husky loves snow.  I believe however, that while they can HANDLE the brutal cold, they don’t particularly love it.  Don’t get me wrong…I think they prefer it over the hottest summer days, but all things being equal they would rather have moderation like anyone or anything else.  Their version of moderation is just a lot lower temperature-wise!
  • Nadia’s puppies turn 5 weeks old on Monday.  They are almost fully weaned, (tomorrow being last day with mama), and the vet check is also scheduled for Monday.  One final round of pictures will come Wednesday/Thursday.  Hang in there owners!  The wait is almost over!
  • Miya’s pups are 4 weeks on Tuesday.   The weaning process is just beginning for them.
  • It’s that time of the year for all of their annual booster shots!  With 16 dogs, and two litters of puppies totaling 13 that we administer shots, the folks at TSC looked at us funny when we bought 29 shots!  Of course by now, most of them know who we are.
  • In the coming months, we will then administer their rabies vaccination.  The serum we use is a 2 or 3 year effectiveness, so this is not an annual thing, but they are now due.
  • Besides the new computer, our hope in the very near future to obtain a new high speed camera.  It is becoming increasingly difficult and annoying to try to take pictures of these dogs/pups with our old camera.
  • I know it’s odd to start thinking about this summer’s Fair, but it does all begin behind the scenes during the winter.  We have our turkeys on order, to be delivered or picked up in about a month.  By that time, the puppies will all be in their new homes, so the heated arrangement we set up in the garage for the puppies with do very nicely for the baby turkeys.  For those who don’t know, turkeys are among the most fragile creatures out there as baby chicks.  They need to be in an environment that stays consistently around 98-102 degrees for the first 2 weeks.  (I think that’s the range) They need to be taught where, and to a degree how, to eat and drink.  We ordered 30, and hope to have at least 25 survive the ordeal.  Chickens don’t come until later this summer.  Usually around early June.  We haven’t decided on ducks yet.
