- It’s been a busy weekend! There was no Friday Flashback blog post on Friday, since it was Zach’s birthday. We had a couple of puppy pickups, plus had dinner out and brought Zach and his friend to “Scene 75”, which is a go cart/laser tag/video game facility. Lots of fun!
- As mentioned, Friday was the pickup of two of Miya’s puppies. Four left on Saturday, and one more on Sunday. We welcome the Elek's, the Stankus', the Daniels’, the Spears', The Norman's, the Westerfield's, and the McKean's to the Frosty Meadow family!
- While cannot confirm at this point, we believe Rose and Phoenix to both be pregnant. It will be a few week before we will make the official announcement, but we are hoping!
- As of now, the pen in the garage that housed the puppies over the last several weeks is empty. That will change soon though. We will be receiving the shipment of 30 baby turkeys soon! They will spend the first couple weeks under close supervision under a heat lamp inside a tub in the cage. After they grow some, we will use the same cage to raise them to 2-3 months old, and then they will move out to the barn.
- Finally, the rains have subsided! The weather forecasters have a dry outlook, which will be a good thing! Hopefully, the mud will dry out, and the stalls as well. They had an episode of minor flooding which is typical after heavy rains. Only a couple bags of Equine Fresh pine pellets, and they are good to go.
- The soft ground did enable us to get a jump start on the new expanded horse fence. Setting fence posts is much easier when the ground is soft! We hope to finish the new area in another week or so, and then re-seed the existing pasture. Horses eat down grass in a hurry! A second pasture will be beneficial to allow the growing to catch up!
- Now that both Nadia and Miya’s litters are in their new homes, I figured I would take this time to remind all the new owners of a few important things. 1) Shots: We administered the first set of shots, but a second and third set are vital! Be sure to see your vet, and schedule your puppy’s booster shots. After the 2nd and 3rd shots, they will then be needed annually. Also, the rabies vaccination will be needed. Consult your veterinarian to schedule this as well. 2) Worming: We do our best to de-worm all of the puppies, but there is never any guarantee that we get them all. I explain at pick up, that we give Pyrantel for 3 weeks, and then finish with 3 consecutive days of Panacur C. Normally, this is very effective in removing/killing all of the various worms except heartworm. However, we do recommend continuing worm treatments. Consult your vet for his/her recommendations. Plain and simple…they are resilient. Continued treatments are normally necessary. Please do not be alarmed if you do see a worm or two in the feces in the coming weeks. Sometimes eggs survive the medication, and ultimately hatch and grow. Consult your vet for his/her recommendation for heartworm prevention. 3) Also, a quick reminder to send in your AKC paperwork! (or go online) AKC uses this information to track breed popularity and many other beneficial items.
