It’s Wednesday…and it’s time for the weekly update:

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • It’s been an uneventful week here at the farm.  It’s the “calm before the storm” week if you will.  Next week the fair begins, and most of the preparations have been made.  So now we wait.
  • The hay field was cut for the second time this past week.  We split the hay 50/50 with the guy that cuts and bales it.   Last year, it was cut four times and due to a dry summer, our share was only about 180 bales total.  This year, it’s been a very good season so far.  In two cuts, we already ec...

Tuesday Tech Talk...Rescuing Huskies

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, In : Tech Talk

In light of a couple conversations I had recently, I felt it would be a good time today on Tuesday Tech Talk to re-visit the need for rescuing Huskies.  On occasion, we get calls from various individuals wanting us to take in their Husky.  There are a variety of reasons it may be needed.  The Husky was found, the owner was not aware of the pitfalls of owning a husky, and sometimes even because of the Husky’s natural predatory instincts are causing issues of local animals.  Whatever the ca...

Sunday Funnies.....

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Sunday, July 28, 2013, In : Sunday Funnies
Or at least a trial size after a very busy weekend.  Jenna's soccer team had one last Summer soccer tournament this weekend.  So most of the weekend (for Jenna and me anyway) was spent on the road.  So after no Saturday post, I will try to get in an abbreviated Sunday post!  (Ok...enough excuses!)

  • One thing that was accomplished this weekend was taking down Zach's fort in the dog's play area.  Holly has been using it as her perch to peek into the back window since it went up a couple months ag...

Friday Focus -- Daisie Mae

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, July 26, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 3…Daisie

Daisie was our third Siberian Husky, and our first AKC Pedigree.  She came to us in July of 2008.  We quickly learned that her personality was a bit different than Holly and Brutus.  She was more moody, aggressive (toward other animals only), and domineering.  Daisie and Holly have always seemed to be in competition with each other over human attention.  If one is getting it, the other comes running.  Unlike Holly, Daisie has a desire to be a lapd...

Cartoon Alter Egos – Kallen

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, July 25, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Our segment today in “Cartoon Alter Egos” will focus on Kallen.  Kallen is about a year and a half old, but still very much in the puppy stage.  I guess you could say he is a dog teenager.  While most Husky puppies are very playful and bounce around a lot, Kallen seems to have it down to a science!  To Denali, Demon, and the older females, he is the “annoying little brother” that always wants to hang out with the big kids.  To Nadia and Chance, he is the “mean older brother” and i...

Wednesday Weekly Update

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly update:

  • Miya is starting to show.  She is in her 5 week of pregnancy, and depending on the size of the litter, that is usually the point where they start to swell up enough to notice.  With smaller litters (like Aleu’s litters), sometimes it is difficult to tell until about 6-7 weeks.  Both of Miya’s litters have been on the larger side, and we anticipate this will be the same.  The fact that she is swelling a little at this point tells us she...

Heatstroke in Dogs

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, In : Tech Talk

I pulled the following excerpt from the internet, and thought it was good information based on the heat this summer.  It's important to pay close attention to our dogs!

"Dogs pant to regulate body temperature, as dogs have fewer sweat glands than humans, and most of their sweat glands are located along the base of their feet.  By panting, a dog can cool the mouth and tongue, along with blood which is circulated through the head, keeping body temperature at a safe and normal level.  Althoug...

Monday Motivation...The Desire for Air

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, July 22, 2013, In : Monday Motivation

The Desire for Air

Plato's mentor was Socrates. Plato thought Socrates was the wisest person of this time and he passionately desired to learn all of Socrates' wisdom.
Legend has it that one day Socrates and Plato were walking down the beach deep in conversation. At one point, Socrates said to Plato, "Walk with me into the ocean." They turned and walked into the sea together.
Now, in your imagination, picture that happening:  Student and teacher, two of the greatest philosophers of histo...

Sunday Funnies, 7-21-13

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Sunday, July 21, 2013, In : Sunday Funnies
Another very hot day, even though they kept promising lower temps and humidity.  Dogs were out as usual, but the activity is a little lower during the heat and humidity.  In addition to a few little items I picked up on between chores, I will add something this week I will call Sunday Snippets as part of the Sunday Funnies.  The Snippets will basically be pictures with captions or descriptions.  We have hundreds of pictures of our Huskies on file, and many times they depict the humorous side ...

Saturday Stories...Halloween in Fletcher

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Saturday, July 20, 2013, In : Stories

Our kids are now older, but several years ago when we moved out to our first mini-farm in Fletcher, we attended the community “trick-or-treat” night in Fletcher.  For a very tiny town, Fletcher always impressed me with this annual event.  Anywhere else I’ve lived, trick-or-treat night has been fun, but it has not been the “big event” that it is in Fletcher.  In Fletcher, nobody rings a door bell.  Many folks are wearing costumes.  Everyone is out in the front yards, and not only giv...

Friday Focus: Brutus

Meet the Siberian Huskies…Part 2…Brutus

After Holly, we truly realized how much we loved the Siberian Husky Breed.  We decided it was time to expand the pack.  Our second Siberian Husky was Brutus.  Brutus was our only CKC registered Husky.  CKC is the “Continental Kennel Club”.  We really didn’t know the ins and outs of kennel clubs at the time, so we didn’t think it made much of a difference.  Holly was non-registered, and we were wanting to be certain all of them from that p...

Cartoon Alter Ego -- Chance

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, July 18, 2013, In : Friday Focus

It's time for another "Cartoon Alter Ego."  Today Chance gets the nod.  Most of our readers know of the issues that Chance has had to deal with throughout his young life.  He is the son of Holly and Kallen, born 3-18-13.  He was one of 10, which is a very large litter.  Chance was born with a condition called a “Persistent Right Aortic Arch”.  Basically, this means his esophagus was wound with a band of tissue that prevented anything but liquids from going down.  Surgery was needed to c...

The Summer Continues...

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

Weekly update on what’s happening down on the farm:

  • It’s been an extremely hot week!  With more still to come, extra care is being taken to aid in the comfort level of the pack.  Fans are going at full strength, water in their pool is being freshened with cold water more often, and a bowl of water containing electrolytes is on hand.  The activity level is down during heat waves.  They pretty much run to the pool, splash around, run back to the shade and lay down.  Then repeat as needed...

Tuesday Tech Talk -- Husky Hydration

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, In : Tech Talk

On our first “Tuesday Tech Talk” segment, we will start with something relatively simple.  Obviously Huskies (or dogs in general) need hydration.  While it’s obvious that during these hot months it’s especially true, it is also true throughout the rest of the year as well.  One tip we try to utilize as often as possible is to save any unused broth when boiling any type of meat.  Many times we will boil chicken for a particular recipe.  If the broth isn’t needed, we simply put it t...

Keep a Positive Outlook -- A View from the World of SpongeBob

SpongeBob, Squarepants.  Anyone with children has likely seen this gem of a cartoon.  In my opinion, it’s one of the greatest ever created.  If you’ve seen it, bear with me while I introduce the rest of our readers  The setting is at the bottom of the ocean, in a place call “Bikini Bottom”.  SpongeBob Squarepants is a sea sponge that lives in a pineapple house.  While they never go into his age, you assume he is around 1...

Sunday Funnies!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, July 15, 2013, In : Sunday Funnies

It’s time for more Sunday Funnies and observations after doing the Sunday Morning chores.  Our Sunday Mornings are not typical of most.  After early church, or church on Saturday night, we are up and at ‘em to get busy on chores.  This time of year especially.  It is much cooler at 8am than during the later parts of the day.   The dogs are out during chores.  It’s easy to keep an eye on them while we work.

  • The first thing we typically do when they come out is the removal of the fur...

Saturday Stories -- "Dan and the Huskies"

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Saturday, July 13, 2013, In : Stories

In today’s rendition of “Stories”, I am going back a few years to the old house, about a year after we first got Dan, our horse that recently and tragically passed away.  The pasture at the old house was fenced on all four sides and kept Dan in place, but being a standard farm fence, it didn’t do a good job of keeping the dogs contained.  More importantly, the fence could not continue over the creek that ran through the middle.  It stopped on both sides, and continued after the cr...

The first edition of Friday Focus...

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, July 12, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Meet the Siberian Huskies…Part 1…Holly

Our first Siberian Husky was Holly.  To this day, she is our most active and athletic dog.  We noticed early on that that she also seemed to take charge when out playing.  Whenever she runs, the others tend to follow her.  She seems a natural leader.  My belief is she would make a great lead dog on a sled team.   Holly is also very smart tends to be stubborn.  She is without a doubt, our chief escape artist.  Since Siberian Huskies love to run so ...

Frosty Meadow Blog...the Next Generation!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, In : General

Welcome to the re-birth of our blog!  We are Frosty Meadow Husky Farm.

Siberian Huskies are among the most beloved breeds of dog in existence.  Several years ago, after purchasing our first Huskies, we decided we would learn all we could about the breed, and breed them in a very responsible manner.  We have accomplished a lot of our goals, and have become one of the most recommended Husky Breeders in our region.  We accomplished this by simply caring for the Huskies we own, and more impo...

Vacation Over, Back to Work!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, July 8, 2013, In : General
It's been a while since my last post.  I took a couple weeks to gather my thoughts and look at the best way or ways to continue to write this blog.  After a week away on vacation, I am ready to launch the new blog details!  Likey on Wednesday, I will post the "Inaugural post".  I re-vamped the categories and have hopes that others will contribute ideas and stories to the various categories.  Details on this will come in the inaugural post, but basically I am hoping to hear stories, etc from o...
