Baby Chance went in to the vet today for his surgery.  Things went well,  and we are cautiously optimistic about his prognosis.  We spoke with the Vet who said Chance pulled through the surgery like a trooper! The surgery took 2 ½ hours. His esophagus is stretched due to holding the milk and he may have to have a future surgery to fix it. The vet is hoping the pouch in his esophagus will shrink on its own. She didn’t want to fix it just in case it does shrink then his esophagus would be too small and she won’t be able to repair it. We will keep an eye on him over night and then he will go back to the vet tomorrow morning for daycare. This was the vet’s first surgery to repair a persistent right aortic arch and had lots of visitors/helpers during his surgery.  He really became the talk of the office!
Chance has a ways to go, as he still has some trouble holding food down.  At this stage, it looks like he can hold more down than before, and we feel as he grows, we can gradually transform his diet to regular food.
