Well, Nadia failed the test today.

Up to this point, she has been left in the house overnight and during the day when no one is here.  Both Nadia and Akira come in overnight.  Akira is fully house trained, but Stink is only about 80% there.  If someone is here, no problem.  We let her out as needed.  Overnight is still a little too long for her so we put down a puppy pad.  She knows to go only there.  During the day, we simply let out Akira.  As a Husky, Akira is….well….different.  She never even attempts to escape.  None of our other dogs, if left alone all day, would stay in.  They would venture to see the world.  Our run area is escape resistant, but NOT escape proof.

Today, we let Nadia out for the day with Akira with no one here.  Fail.  When the kids got home from school, she was out having a good ol’ time chasing the cats and chickens!  Luckily, she is small enough that they were all able to outrun her, and luckily she stayed close, but now she knows.  L

The floodgates are now officially open.  Now that she knows she can, she will.  She will figure out a way if given the time.  So I guess with her it’s potty and back in until we are home to supervise.

I guess Akira spoiled us.  When Stink gets bigger, she won’t be able to squeeze through the gaps any more, but she will likely go over or under.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, future expansion will include a large escape-proof run area.  Nadia will likely always be a house dog, but perhaps during the day she will go out to that run area.

Until then, it’s only supervised play time.  Like the rest of them.

Deep down, we knew this day was coming.  She is a “normal” Husky!
