As was announced yesterday, Our beloved Holly passed away at the age of 10. Born on December 11th, 2007, Holly was our very first Husky.  She was one of the original 3, as we like to call them.  Holly, Daisie Mae, and Brutus were our first 3 huskies, and set the tone for what is now a wonderful business.  They are all gone now, but will forever live in our hearts and certainly will live on through their children and grandchildren.  Holly was truly a unique Husky that taught us almost everything we know about the breed, both good and bad.  We’ve always said it was “trial by fire” with Holly!  Over the years, many stories have been written on this blog about her adventures, quirks, and escape artistry.  In her younger years, we was our most athletic Husky.  There were many things she could do that most of the others couldn’t.

Some examples:

  • ·       Even today, very few can jump from the ground to the top of the trampoline.  We have a “step” to assist most of them.  Holly could do it with ease.  She seemed to float when airborne.
  • ·        Holly once jumped over the compressor that used to be out back, cleared it completely, and landed on the deck.  She was being chased by Aleu, who tried to do the same but didn’t quite make it.  She couldn’t clear the compressor, tripped, and crashed into the side of the deck.
  • ·        Her escape artistry was legendary.  I wrote an entire blog in the category “Saturday Stories” that outlined some her many escapes.
  • ·         In her later years after retirement, she always seemed to lead the charge with getting into food, learning how to open doors, and general misbehaving in the house.

The center of Holly’s universe was always food.  At every age, all the way up to her last day.  The only thing she ever encountered that took precedence over food was her puppies.  But even then, she had to stop and think about it.  Whenever anyone walked into the kitchen, she was sure to follow.  Even on her last day, the night before she passed away, she struggled to stand up and wearily walked toward us eating dinner and we of course gave her a few morsels.  Her final meal was smoked brisket.  How appropriate.

Holly was the mother of 5 litters, and 42 total puppies before retiring at the age of 6.  Here children are:  Blaze, Gizmo, Mishka, Maximus, Cane, Nala, Sasha, Deisel, Pablo, King, Alex, Aurora, Sophie, Bandit, Storm, Chaser, Dante, Shelby, Loki, Deja, Kasper, Luna, Ali, Miya, Smokey, Jax, Nakita, Dee, Dyno, Ares, Oscar, Sebastian, Jack, Ninja, Pookah, Nikka, Elsa, 2-others (no names), plus our own Chance, Ember, and Iris.  Holly also has (at least) 19 grand-children.  They are:  (Through Chance), Athena, Bo, Nanuck, Niko, Kato, and Chance Jr.; (Though Iris), Finn, Shane, Kya, Lunar, Smokee Bandit, Lenny, Milo, Akida, Leonora, Sophia, plus another litter to be born soon; (Through Ember), Zephyr, Bryzzo, and our own Willow.  Though Willow, Holly also has 3 great-grandchildren.  They are:  Dakota, Chloe, and Aurora.

Holly will forever be a part of the heritage and history of Frosty Meadow Husky Farm.  Her charm won over hundreds of visitors over the years, as she always loved everyone’s attention.  We will miss her greatly, and we will never forget her!  Rest in Peace girl!
