Akira came to us in the fall of 2009, after a friend of a
friend could no longer care for her.
They came for a visit to see how well she would get along with the
others, and at first it seemed there would be no issues. We decided to take her in, and we put her
with the others. It didn’t take long for
us to realize however, that Akira was different from any Husky we have or have
ever met. She was very timid, and wanted
nothing to do with the others. The
others (especially Daisie) seemed to pick on her as if she were a school girl
being bullied. She spent most of her
time curled up in a corner, and didn’t even want out come out to eat. At the time, we had no Huskies in our house,
but we wanted one. We decided she would
live inside. We were concerned that she
would never fully come around. She fit
right in. While skittish at first, it
didn’t take her long to fit in. Everyone
loved her, and we had no trouble house training her. Today, along with Chance and Nadia, she still
very much enjoys life in the house. When
the others come out to play, she plays with them with no issues. In fact, she almost sees the fenced area as
her domain. Behind Holly and Daisie, she
is our third oldest Husky. She has never
had any puppies because she was spayed by her original owners. Many times we have felt it would have been
nice if she could have had puppies, because she is a very beautiful dog. Many have inquired on puppies that look like
her. It’s okay though. We couldn’t love her more for who she is!
