The Sunday Funnies!

April 7, 2013

4-7-13

·         For the third weekend in a row, it’s been difficult to get though the normal blog routine.  The “Saturday Stories” was once again pre-empted by an unforeseen circumstance.  Saturday itself was quite eventful, including the addition of our newest horse “Buffalo Hunter”, or “Hunter” as we call him.  This was a big event, but it was overshadowed by the Appendicitis flare-up that overcame Jenna, my daughter.  I am certainly happy to report that she is doing well and resting comfortably at home after a late afternoon surgery Saturday.

·         Sunday proved to be much more relaxing.  The weather was more than cooperative.  Today was picture day for the first time for Aleu’s pups.  They loved crawling around in the grass on this warm day.  They are now two weeks old.  About a week behind Holly’s pups.

·         Speaking of warm weather.  As the dogs are out playing, I am doing my normal chores, and I start to feel hot!  I am not complaining by any stretch, but wow…what a difference a week makes!!

·         Part of the chores this week include putting away all of the heated buckets and heat lamps.  I haven’t had them plugged in for a while (except the lamps on the puppies) and I think winter is behind us.  Time to put them away.  On that same note, I am feeling like I need to get the fans out already!  Jeesh!

·         I am now seated and relaxing watching the dogs.  Holly, for the most part is back to herself.  She is running around and enjoying herself as much as the others.  She and Aleu are still concerned about their babies, but enjoy their time out as well.

·         Zach is again out playing with them.  He is building a fort and keeps getting upset at the dogs for messing it up.  Ah the innocent days of boyhood.  He lets Kallen in his fort, and Kallen seems to be having fun as if he is a young human boy like Zach!

·         Miss Nadia has been working on a hole in the middle of the yard.  She almost has herself buried.  I guess it’s time to stop her.  I just can’t help but watch their persistence.  She seems determined that this is her route to the outside world.  Of course she is 50 feet from the nearest fence.  Maybe she can just dig through to China!

·         I am listening to the Reds game while out here with the dogs.  Yes I am a big Reds/baseball fan.  Everyone has the things they enjoy.  For me, it’s tough to beat sitting out here on a warm spring/summer day, enjoying a beer, listening to a Reds game, and watching the dogs as they enjoy life and do weird and funny things!

·         The new horse, Hunter, is drawing attention from the dogs.  In the barn, he is next to the stall that contains Demon, Denali, and Rose.  Last night, they all passed the test of getting along with each other.  Today, in the pasture, Hunter is staring, and the dogs are staring back.  It won’t take long, they will get used to each other.

·         Earlier, when I was letting the dogs out, I purposely let Holly out last.  Jeesh!  It was like grounding a teenager from her cell phone and computer!  She whines and cries loudly until I get to her.  The others bark or howl and make noise, but not like this.  She’s spoiled and I admit it!

·         Zach and Kallen are now out of the fort, running around.  Kallen grabbed Zach’s plastic gun and is running away from him.  It’s Zach’s favorite gun, and he’s not happy!  He is chasing her around, and off in the distance I think I hear the Benny Hill song playing.  Comical!

·         Wow…Eeyore becomes a wild stallion when Billy comes around!  (Refer to the most recent blog on cartoon alter ego’s if you don’t know who Eeyore is)

·         “And this one belongs to the Reds!!”  What a great start to the season!

·         Time to put the dogs back in. Holly and Aleu go first, they miss their babies.  Daisie and Miya get to take a lap around the pasture first.  It’s time for me to get some exercise, so it’s time to do laps on a regular basis!

Puppy Picture Day!

Puppy picture day!

Today was the first puppy picture day at the farm for Holly’s litter.  Aleu’s will follow soon.  Many times we are asked, “How do you tell them apart, and know which one I picked?”  It is a VERY valid question.  Some litters are very easy, and others are very difficult.  An example of an easy one was Rose’s recent litter.  There were 6 puppies in all.  Two were all-white, one male, one female.  No problems there!  One of the remaining four was red and w...

Special Thursday edition of the Sunday Funnies

March 28, 2013

3-28-13

In lieu of being out of town last weekend and this weekend being Easter, I took the opportunity to jot down my notes and observations while watching the dogs as they play.  They run and play on a regular basis, but only on occasion do I get the opportunity to observe and take notes.  Today, Zach and I were out practicing golf shots while they played.

·         Aleu and Holly are limited in their time out, mostly because they don’t want to go out.  Typical for new mothers.  It u...

Uneventful weekend, Husky-wise

March 25, 2013
Due to a out of town soccer tournament, There was no renditions of "Saturday Stories", or "Sunday Funnies" this week.  Thanks go out to Taylor and Meranda for tending to the animals in our absence, and a great job goes out to Jenna's soccer team even though they didn't quite make the championship game.
Hopefully, everything will get back to normal now.

Aleu Delivers!!

March 23, 2013

As we woke up this morning, we expected it to be the day that we said goodbye to all of Rose's puppies, and that was the case.  However, it turned out to be Goodbye to Rose's pups and Hello to Aleu's!  Aleu gave birth this morning to 5 puppies.  Three were all white, and two were black and white.  The white one are male, and the black and white are female.  I suppose the fact that the two black and white are female is a good thing, because out of Holly's 10, only two were female.  So Holly an...

Off to the vet!

March 21, 2013
The excitement of Holly's puppies is dwindling down.  Time to again focus on getting Rose's puppies ready for their new homes.  Today was vet visit day.   All puppies had their physicals and shots, as well as another dose of worm medication.  They will start heading for their new homes tomorrow!
Update on Aleu:
She is appearing more and more pregnant! Likely a small litter as I mentioned before, but we are still happy to see the progress.
Meanwhile, the others had their normal active day out. ...

The day has arrived!

March 19, 2013

3-19-13

Today I am combining the post from 3-18 and 3-19, because it has been a VERY busy day at the farm!  We finally get to announce the arrival of Holly’s puppies!!  Labor began yesterday around noon, and after a long day, evening, and night, she had 10 puppies in the end!  We believe she is done, but will update if that number changes.  They are all black and white, with a couple having some gray.  All of Holly’s puppies to date have been black and white regardless of father.  This...

Sunday funnies!

March 17, 2013

3-17-13

A happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone!   Time for another rendition of the Sunday funnies.   (Well, I see the funny, if no one else does)  J

·         Holly is officially as big as a house!  If she has fewer than 8 puppies, I will be surprised.  I am surprised, however, that she has not yet given birth.

·         Meanwhile, over in the direction of Aleu, the jury is still out.  She seems to now be getting bigger.  She has always been difficult to figure out.  She has ...

Fail!

March 16, 2013

3-15-13

Well, Nadia failed the test today.

Up to this point, she has been left in the house overnight and during the day when no one is here.  Both Nadia and Akira come in overnight.  Akira is fully house trained, but Stink is only about 80% there.  If someone is here, no problem.  We let her out as needed.  Overnight is still a little too long for her so we put down a puppy pad.  She knows to go only there.  During the day, we simply let out Akira.  As a Husky, Akira is….well….differe...
