- Back to blogging! After
an extremely long hiatus, I am getting back started with routine blogging. It won’t be a daily thing, but hopefully it
will be a few times per week. We finally
upgraded our computer. One of the main
reason I have been away from blogging was the fact that our laptop (and only)
computer was not doing very well. It
didn’t get along with this website, and downloading Firefox (and others) proved
to be challenging or not possible. The
only shot I had at blogging was from my work computer, but that was limited to
my brief lunch breaks.
- Another relentless winter.
Not so much the snow, although it is snowing today, but rather the
brutal cold temps for long periods. Most
everyone that is reading this knows a Husky loves snow. I believe however, that while they can HANDLE
the brutal cold, they don’t particularly love it. Don’t get me wrong…I think they prefer it over
the hottest summer days, but all things being equal they would rather have
moderation like anyone or anything else.
Their version of moderation is just a lot lower temperature-wise!
- Nadia’s puppies turn 5 weeks old on Monday. They are almost fully weaned, (tomorrow being
last day with mama), and the vet check is also scheduled for Monday. One final round of pictures will come
Wednesday/Thursday. Hang in there owners! The wait is almost over!
- Miya’s pups are 4 weeks on Tuesday. The
weaning process is just beginning for them.
- It’s that time of the year for all of their annual booster
shots! With 16 dogs, and two litters of
puppies totaling 13 that we administer shots, the folks at TSC looked at us
funny when we bought 29 shots! Of course
by now, most of them know who we are.
- In the coming months, we will then administer their rabies
vaccination. The serum we use is a 2 or
3 year effectiveness, so this is not an annual thing, but they are now due.
- Besides the new computer, our hope in the very near future
to obtain a new high speed camera. It is
becoming increasingly difficult and annoying to try to take pictures of these dogs/pups
with our old camera.
- I know it’s odd to start thinking about this summer’s Fair,
but it does all begin behind the scenes during the winter. We have our turkeys on order, to be delivered
or picked up in about a month. By that
time, the puppies will all be in their new homes, so the heated arrangement we set
up in the garage for the puppies with do very nicely for the baby turkeys. For those who don’t know, turkeys are among
the most fragile creatures out there as baby chicks. They need to be in an environment that stays consistently
around 98-102 degrees for the first 2 weeks.
(I think that’s the range) They need to be taught where, and to a degree
how, to eat and drink. We ordered 30,
and hope to have at least 25 survive the ordeal. Chickens
don’t come until later this summer. Usually
around early June. We haven’t decided on
ducks yet.

Graduations are in the books, and summer is underway. Summer tends to be a much busier time for
most, and we here at the farm aren’t any different!
- Rose’s puppies are almost all in their new homes. Only 2 remain with us, due to the special
arrangements we made for pickup. One
family is on vacation until next week, and the other (Rob and Tonya) are set to
arrive the weekend of the 21st.
Congratulations to Rob and Tonya on the birth of their son Wyatt! So far, the report has been th...

Memorial Day has come and gone. Frosty Meadow Husky Farm honors all those who
have served our great country, especially those who lost their life in defense of
our freedom!
- This Memorial Day weekend was a very big one for us. Our daughters, Jenna and Meranda, both graduated
from high school! Time has sure
flown. It’s time for them to begin the
next chapter of their lives, as Jenna heads off to Walsh University to study
Physical Therapy, and Meranda will be staying closer to home and ...

Wow…it’s been a while!
We’ve been out of town for a few days to visit family in VA Beach, and
get a little R&R before the summer kicks in. Summer is usually filled with projects, to-do’s,
and events, so it was nice to get away for a few days beforehand.
- First, a special thanks to Taylor for being the farm hand while we were away. She took over the daily chores so that we could get away.
- Before leaving, All of Daisie’s puppies went to their new
homes. Thanks again to all of t...

A little late this week, but here's what's happening down on the farm:
- Daisie's pups are now 5 weeks old (tomorrow), and are a handful! They went in for their vet check-up yesterday, and are good to go! They are about 90% weaned, and will soon be fully weaned. Daisie didn't give us much choice this time around. At about 4 weeks, she pretty much shut them down. Other than the occasional snack, Daisie has avoided them. But that's ok. That many puppies is simply too much to keep up with fo...

- Update on Daisie’s pups:
They are now 3 ½ weeks old, and are starting to run around and be
playful. As of today, there are 3
remaining white males. We have started
the de-worm process, and will be starting to wean them soon. With larger litters, we start to wean them at
4 weeks. The mother has trouble keeping
up with milk production when there are this many puppies! Also, they vary in size due to some getting
more than others. We will be introducing
them to 4-Health soft food this...

It's April in Ohio...It's time to play weather roulette! Flooding rains and 60 degrees to sunny and 80 degrees to 24 degrees and an inch of snow. If nothing else, it's entertaining!
- Latest on Daisie's pups.....They are now 18 days old, and are opening their eyes. We are happy to report at this time that they all appear to be blue! As of this writing, Only the white males remain unsold. (as usual) We moved them down to the "growing up" stall to make room for Rose in the birthing stall.

“And the rain, rain, rain; came down, down, down; in rushing
little riv’lets; ‘Til the river crept out of its bed, and crept right into
Piglets.”
- Back before Christmas, this song popped into my head, due to
the flooding rains at that time. Seems
it wouldn’t be the only time in these few months! This flood, in terms of the stalls, was worse
than the one a few months ago. Once
again, the dogs seemed to enjoy it. Demon
specifically, was jumping up and down into a pool of water i...

A big week here at the farm!
- As expected, Daisie gave birth to a large litter of puppies
Saturday. The litter was larger than
expected. Eleven total puppies, which is
a new Frosty Meadow Farms record! (Previous was 10 by Miya, Holly, and Daisie.) There were 5-all white (1-F, 4-M) and 5-black
and white (3-F, 2-M). One unfortunately,
was stillborn.
- Daisie is now labeled as “SuperMom”. We are likely going to retire her now, after
4 large litters. She is coming up on 6
years old, a...

Before starting into this week’s update, I will be sure to
mention that today is Heather’s birthday.
Not only is Heather my beautiful wife, but also my best friend and
business partner here at Frosty Meadow Farms.
She handles a lot of the behind the scenes items that go unnoticed many
times. Things like medical care, shots,
pictures, and overall care for the dogs.
She certainly provides the nurturing side that is vital for the overall
happiness and comfort of the Huskies.
