Wednesday Weekly Update 11-20-13

November 20, 2013
  • As mentioned before, this past weekend was the one year anniversary of our beloved Brutus passing away.  He was our second Husky, and he will always live on in our memory.  RIP buddy.
  • Tomorrow (Thursday) is Miya and Peyton’s 3rd Birthday.  Peyton is no longer with us, but we will honor her while celebrating with Miya!
  • Also, Friday we will celebrate the birthday of Daisie and Denali’s litter from last year.  Born 11-22-12.  They include our Nadia, as well as Nanuk, Hank, Rocky, Moonshine, Cheyenne, Sophie, Luna, Myley, and one other.  Happy First Birthday!!
  • Speaking of Daisie, We are expecting her cycle to start very soon.  We anticipate her litter around mid-February to kick off 2014.  Denali will again be the father.
  • As far as 2014 is concerned, our anticipated litter schedule is Daisie in February, Holly and Rose in April, Aleu and Nadia in the summer, and Miya in the fall.  Beyond Daisie, we have not officially decided who the fathers will be.
  • And on a final and unrelated note, They finally harvested the corn across the street!  Is it just me, or is it considerably later this year?  November 16th it came down!

Friday Focus...Kallen

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 11…Kallen

In early 2012, as we started to expand on the number of females in our pack, we decided it was also time to add another male.  Kallen came to us from Southern Indiana in the late spring of 2012.  At first, Kallen was on the shy and reserved side.  But it didn’t take him long to warm up to everyone.  He and Rose hit it off immediately, and became playground buddies.  As Kallen grew, he became more and more mischievous.  If there are dogs getting...

How do you define Commitment?

November 12, 2013

I am going to step away from the normal topic today, and write about a soccer team.  A team that I have followed for four years now, containing players that have played together for many more than that.  I am not referring to any professional team, but rather the Lehman Catholic High School Girls soccer team.  This group of girls, which includes my daughter Jenna, has been the epitome of commitment.

From the very first day of recreational soccer in early childhood, this group has played ...

Friday Focus...Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 10…Rose

November 8, 2013

Rose came to us in the spring of 2012, all the way from northern Michigan.  A musher contacted us inquiring on one of Daisie and Denali’s January 2012 litter, wanting an all-white male.  After a discussion with the individuals, realized they were also breeders that bred their huskies to keep for racing and also to sell.  We were both looking to expand our packs, and after we realized they had puppies to sell as well, we agreed to simply exchange puppies.  Daisie’s puppy, (Shemiah) is ...

Wednesday Weekly Update...11-6-13

November 6, 2013
  • Not much to update this week.  The biggest thing to announce is that unfortunately, it doesn't look like Aleu will be having puppies.  Chalk up another false alarm!  Aleu is our only female that this happens to.  With each or her litters or possible litters, we literally don't know until a short period of time before the birth!
  • Beyond that, we are simply in a slow time.  Our next scheduled litter is early 2014, with Daisie next in line.  We anticipate a litter from her and Denali in the month ...

Should I be a Husky Owner? Part 2

November 5, 2013

Last week, we discussed the many great advantages of the Siberian Husky.  While there are a lot of great things about them, there are also pitfalls.  To many, the pitfalls can far outweigh the good.  The purpose here is to educate everyone to both, and let everyone decide for themselves whether or not a Husky is right for them.

A Siberian Husky is a high maintenance dog.  Most Husky owners find it best to develop a routine that helps minimize the issues, and being very smart dogs, a Husk...

Friday Focus...Cartoon Alter Ego, Brutus

November 1, 2013

In today’s edition of “Cartoon Alter Ego”, I am writing about Brutus, although it is difficult.  As most of you know, Brutus was a Frosty Meadow Favorite.  We’ve mentioned many times that almost everyone who came to the farm remarked on how beautiful and friendly he was.  Multiple times, when puppy buyers would come to pick out their puppy, they would see Brutus and ask if they could just buy him instead.  Of course the answer was always NO!!

Brutus was a very loving and even tempe...
