“And the rain, rain, rain; came down, down, down; in rushing little riv’lets; ‘Til the river crept out of its bed, and crept right into Piglets.”

  • Here it is, the weekend before Christmas, and instead of Charlie Brown, Rudolf, and the rest of the holiday cartoons, I have “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” on my mind.  It’s been a loooonnnngggg time since I’ve seen flooding like this.  Many a rushing streams were flowing through our property, on the way to the river.
  • Meanwhile, out in the barn, the dogs are loving it!  For the most part, the stalls don’t flood, but the water does come in some.  We’ve noticed this in the past, and every stall has in place tables and ledges for them to sit, sleep, etc., for occasions such as this.
  • I’ve mentioned in the past, the holes they (mostly Kallen) have dug.  Well, a couple in particular are bigger than others.  These became mini swimming pools, and the stalls then became a Husky water park!  What fun!! (and what a muddy slopfest!)
  • Of course being the party pooper I am, I filled in the holes with equine fresh to absorb the water.  I could get nicer looks from my kids if I cancelled Christmas!
  • This unfortunately, is the one situation that the dogs don’t get as much playtime outside.  They get to go out for a 10-15 minute run around, and we will walk around with them on a leash, but any longer in the normal play area would mean a mud pit that wouldn’t recover next spring.
  • The house dogs on the other hand, aren’t as fond of the wet and mud.  Especially Nadia.  Little Miss Prissy doesn’t want to leave the deck, and we have to force her out to potty.
  • Chance is fine with it.  He is quickly becoming “Mini-Kallen”.  Always looking for trouble.  He is officially the “Sock Bandit”.  No sock is safe around Chance.  I have lost several to him.  The little turd knows exactly where to go to find them.  And to rub salt in everyone’s wounds, whenever he makes a conquest, he run out to us and shows us and then takes off!
  • Meranda brought Chance home a rope toy for a Christmas gift, and decided to give it to him early.  It is now a bunch of strings.  The rope went bye-bye a couple days ago.  At least it’s not socks!
  • On a sad note, today is the one year anniversary of Peyton's Death.  She was hit by a truck in the evening on 12-23-12.  She only had one litter of puppies.  Indy, Isis, Nanook, Kobe, Aspen,  Kaia, and one other. Christmas Day marks the one year anniversary of the death of our long time house cat Eddie.  He peacefully died in his sleep at the age of 12 ½.  RIP Peyton and Eddie.  We miss you!
  • Merry Christmas Everybody!!!!
