A lot has happened on the farm since our last blog!  Our apologies for the delays in keeping up to date!

The spring/summer litters are all now in their new homes:

Very Cool and Interesting Colors

A few of our spring litter’s had interesting colors (a few agouti and dirty faced pups) as Gypsy and Quinn had their first litters.  Some of our most beautiful pups came from these litters!  We loved the colors so much that it enticed us to purchase Onyx.  (More on her later)

Final Litters/Retirement for some

Iris had her last litter since she had another C-section, and Nadia and Mylah had their final litters as well and will soon be spayed.  All 3 will now begin to enjoy retirement!  Mylah will likely be moved to join her half-sister Miya and Aleu at Joe and Lori’s “Retirement Home”  As mentioned in a prior post, Joe and Lori are friends of ours that have a perfect set up for taking in some of our retired dogs.  The dogs that go there really enjoy themselves and get the needed attention they deserve!  Additionally, Kallen is retiring as we feel we now have other males to take his place, and he isn’t as young as he used to be!  He is also likely to go to Joe and Lori’s.

The “Other” Spring Litters

Luna and Vienna also had spring litters, and were great mothers.  They had some beautiful puppies.

Current Litters:

Josie and Ziva

We currently have litters from Josie and Ziva with a mixture of different colored pups.  Ziva’s pups are a mix of all-white, red & white, gray & white, and black & white.  Josie’s are all black and white or gray and white.  One of the gray females is smaller than the others, but she is feisty!  With a little intervention from us, she is doing great!  Many of our litters have runts, and in a lot of cases the runt doesn’t make it.  It is certainly one of the more difficult and challenging aspects for breeders.  It is always exciting when you can see one through to a healthy life!  It looks like Josie’s little pup will be one of those!  Our Nadia was this way and has grown to be a healthy, happy (albeit smaller), Husky!

Future Litters:

Ice, Rose, and Willow

Ice and Rose are due in a couple weeks.  This will be Rose’s final litter. If I had to give an opinion on this, I would vote Rose as our best mother of all.  We’ve had a lot of great mothers, but I believe Rose tops them all.  In a future blog, I will go into more detail of all of our recent retirees.  This will be Ice’s 3rd litter.  She had also done well as a mama!  These 2 litters would home around mid-December.  Christmas pups have been somewhat rare here, so maybe this year will be a little different!  Next in line after them is Willow.  She is just starting her heat cycle, so her pups would not arrive until December, and go home in February.  Looks like we will have some down time this winter, as Willow is the only one scheduled to have a litter of pups until next Spring with Phoenix and Talia.

New Pups:

Faith and Tundra

Faith and Tundra, (who were first introduced in a previous blog) came to us several months ago.  Faith is a fun loving sable girl. We are excited to add her as we’ve been looking for a sable for quite a while. Tundra is our new sable male. He has a parti-eye(half blue, half brown) and a blue eye. He has a sweet gentle nature and we are excited to add him also.

Mae and Onyx

Mae is Nadia’s daughter and looks like just her grandmother, Daisie Mae.  Daisie Mae was our first AKC female and very dear to us.  We decided to honor Daisie with naming her granddaughter after her. (Hence the name Mae.) Onyx is a sweet black and tan female with piercing blue eyes.  She came from Tennessee, from the same breeder that we got Gypsy.  As mentioned earlier, the litters from both Gypsy and Quinn produced very strikingly beautiful pups, so we wanted to expand our capabilities to provide these colors.

Rose puppy

We will be keeping one of Rose pups (since she will be retiring) and we’ll give more information when she comes.  We haven’t officially decided what color we want, and figure to wait until they are born to choose.

Other happenings and events:

8th Annual Husky Reunion

We had a great turnout for our 8th annual Husky reunion!  It was great to see everyone and hear stories of their pups!  We had awesome weather for the reunion!  We did things a little differently this year and did not get our dogs out.  We were able to socialize more with our puppy owners as a result.  It really made the experience that much better for us!  We really enjoyed hearing stories and watching all the dogs play together!   Thanks to all that attended, and we hope more and more can attend in the future!

Projects

We have been working on the barn throughout the spring, summer, and now into fall.   We have not yet added any additional stalls beyond the original 6 that we completed last fall, but rather we are focused on the back wall.  So far this year we have replaced 3 windows on the back wall of the barn and put up a new back door.  The door and windows are normal and weatherproof, and we believe these will go a long way in adding to the warmth in the winter.  Before winter we will have the back wall of the barn completely done.  This will include one additional window replacement and insulation.   Once the back wall is complete we will start construction on stalls on the other side of the barn.  All of the new stalls are up to Ohio’s new kennel standards.   Additionally, we had the roof on the barn sealed and painted in the spring, as well as fixing the soffits.  We also hope to add gutters in the near future.

Sad note

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Demon.  Demon was Denali’s brother, and was the last survivor of our original 5.  While he did not have nearly as many litters as his brother, Demon did have several over the years.  He was the first to go to Joe and Lori’s “retirement home” and we believe he truly enjoyed the final years of his life.  He got lots of walks, pampering & brushing, and treats.  He will be greatly missed by all, but especially by Joe.  Demon and Joe had a very close bond.
