Christmas season is upon us, and all of the decorations are up including the Nativity, the lights, and the tree.  The lawn mower, grill, and other “summer” items are tucked away for the winter.  Soon, the snow will fly.

In past seasons, as the fans in the barn get put away, the electric buckets and heat lamps come out.  This year is a little different.  We did put out the heat lamps for all of the pups, and will likely do the same for the upcoming litters, but they will not be needed as much this year as in years past.  The reason for this is we have installed heaters in the barn.  The new stalls are up and the concrete floor is finished! (more on these later) We put up plastic in the barn for a greenhouse effect, and we will heat it to a balmy 45 degrees or so.  Keep in mind, huskies live in there.  It doesn’t need to be South Beach.  The biggest thing is to keep it above freezing to prevent ice, in both the water buckets, and also the cleaning and disinfecting of the stalls.

Speaking of pups, Aleu’s have all passed the vet check, and are ready to go to their new homes!  Pickups will be (mostly) the week after Christmas.  Thank you to all the new puppy owners!

Now that Aleu is finished with the raising of her pups, she is officially retired and rehomed permanently.  Some good friends of ours have adopted a couple of our retired huskies.  They have a great set up, and have welcomed Demon along with Aleu.  They have been a great home for them, and provide them with more attention than we can give them.  Plus, we get to visit them regularly if we choose!  Also, it looks as if Miya will also be staying with them.  Thanks Joe and Lori!

Willow and Ellie’s litters have arrived! Ellie had 6 pups, born 12-18-17, (5-M, 1-F) and Willow had 3 pups born 12-17-17(2-M, 1-F).  They are all either black and white or gray and white.  All are doing well!

We also believe Phoenix and Rose to be pregnant.  Hopefully we can soon confirm!

I mentioned the concrete barn floor and stalls.  Finally, the concrete project is complete!  The barn floor is now 100% concrete, complete with a floor drain.  The stalls along the East wall are almost complete.  Six of the seven are now in operation, with one gate still to purchase to finish the 7th.  They are working out great!

Also shown in the pictures, (and mentioned above) is the plastic for a greenhouse effect.  It won’t provide a full insulating barrier, but it definitely holds in the heat better.  Without much effort, the heaters we purchased are keeping the barn at a relatively comfortable 45 degrees or so.

Next spring, the hope is to finish the West side new stalls, and then to start on the outside portion.  Still a long road, but it’s finally starting to take shape!

We had a couple new additions since our last blog.  Vienna comes to us from Eastern Ohio.  She is two years old, and after a period of adjustment seems to fit in well.  She is a beautiful black and white with blue eyes, and has a slight auburn tint to her.  Also, Sampson (Sam) came to us a few weeks ago.  He is one of the males we mentioned in the previous blog.  That gives 3 males, and with the soon addition of Tundra, our new Sable little guy, we will have the 4 males we wanted.  Tundra was just recently born, and comes from North Carolina.  We’ve been long searching for a Sable Husky, and finally found one!

Talia, our recent female addition, is growing fast!  She is already as big as her buddy Ice, at around 30-35 lbs.  She is going to be a big girl!

Finally, we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a blessed and prosperous new year!  Thanks to all who have made Frosty Meadow Husky Farm what it is today!  We reached a special milestone with Ellie’s litter.  Her litter is our 50th overall!  Seems like only yesterday that Daisie Mae had her first and our first litter.  That was 8 years ago and words cannot express what a great trip it’s been along the way!
