The Husky Report...3-8-15

- It was the big weekend for Nadia’s pups! They all went to their new homes. We welcome to The Frosty Meadow Family, the Halusek’s, the Wiese’s, the Prader’s, the Yedinak’s, the Strowsky’s, and also a special mention to the Marti’s for their second puppy going home to meet Finn. (from Miya and Kallen 2013).
- As mentioned previously, Miya’s pups are now separated from mama, and loving the yummy new food they get! They have all now been vet-checked, (all passed!) and will get their shots at 6 weeks. They will be ready to go next weekend! Owners, we will be setting up appointments soon.
- Next up, we are anticipating Rose and Phoenix to have litters. Kallen will be the father of both of these as well. He has been busy! Denali will be much more active in the later summer. Both Rose and Phoenix have started their heat cycles, and so the expectation is an early May time frame for the births. When we can confirm, we will make the official announcement.
- Josie is in the middle of a heat cycle as well, but this being her first we will skip. Her first anticipated litter would be later in the year, probably around October.
- What a wonderful weekend it was weather-wise! (Relatively speaking) Dogs were certainly more active, more outdoor activities got accomplished, and we even got to grill out!
- Of course, now comes the snow melt off, and the inevitable flooding. And mud. And mess.
- Looking ahead, if the warmer weather continues, it will be time to unplug! All the heat lamps, electric water buckets, etc., get put away. One of the best feelings of the year!
- Spring projects include: 1) Adding an additional horse pasture section so we can re-seed and fertilize the existing one. Then we can flip flop them back and forth and give the grass a fighting chance! 2) Starting the new barn stall additions. We’ve been wanting to do this for some time now. 3) Fix all fences; both electric and chain link.
- On a humorous note, Heather and I had to laugh when we were watching the dogs play outside, and Ember did her best Aleu impression when after a running start tried to jump over the Compressor Unit in the back yard and onto the deck. She fell short and crashed into the side of the deck. Some (Holly, Chance, Kallen) are much more graceful than others (Aleu, Ember, Iris). She took it in stride, and continued to run and have fun.
