• Update on Daisie’s pups:  They are now 3 ½ weeks old, and are starting to run around and be playful.  As of today, there are 3 remaining white males.  We have started the de-worm process, and will be starting to wean them soon.  With larger litters, we start to wean them at 4 weeks.  The mother has trouble keeping up with milk production when there are this many puppies!  Also, they vary in size due to some getting more than others.  We will be introducing them to 4-Health soft food this weekend.
  • Update on Rose’s Pups:  Tomorrow, they will be one week old.  We were wondering how Rose would do with a larger litter.  She is doing very well.  This is her second litter, and the first was only 6 puppies.  One thing about litters when the weather gets warmer.  The mothers don’t like to be in their warm carpeted birthing box.  In the winter, they really like it in there, but  now both Rose and Daisie refuse to keep the puppies inside the box, even without a heat lamp.  Oh well.  As long as mama is comfortable, and she is taking care of the babies.
  • Update on Holly:  I think we can officially pinpoint with decent accuracy when Holly’s pups will arrive!  (assuming all goes well)    The week of June 22nd is our initial prediction.  That means mid-late August they will go to their new homes.  As mentioned before, we are keeping the first 2 females, but now we are considering names.  The first is likely to be named Iris.  Many years ago, we got a mix breed puppy and named her Iris.  She was a mix of Husky, Labrador, and Timberwolf.  She behaved a lot like a Husky, and she is the reason we are Husky breeders today.  We haven’t thought of a name for the second puppy yet.
  • The turkeys and ducks are now all out in the barn, and doing well.  One exception though.  Turkeys tend to pick at each other and if blood is ever drawn, they all pick on that one.  Unfortunately, it can lead to a death.  We have one that is close to dying for that reason, but is hanging on.  We separated him from the others, and are hoping he survives.
  • We had special visitors yesterday!  Rob, Tonya (and baby), and of course Cheyenne, pulled up in their truck, after dropping off their load north of here.  They were actually here to pick out another Husky!  They chose a red and white male, the darkest of the three.  Cheyenne had a lot of fun running around as far as her long leash would take her, being very curious about her different surroundings.  When they were leaving, Cheyenne jump up into the truck (about 4 feet) with no troubles!  As she sat on Tonya’s lap in the passenger seat, she put her head out of the window and had a look that said, “This is my domain!”  Per Rob, she loves the road, and the life of trucking!
  • Finally, warmer weather looks like it’s here to stay.  Just around the corner, it will be time to pull out the kiddie pool and fans.
  • What’s worse…The Electric Bill during the winter cold or the summer heat when we have to run the fans all the time?  Winter…By Far…not even a contest!  Wow!  This winter has been terrible!!  We are unfortunately 100% electric, and our bill averaged around $600 per month! Ugh!
  • With warmer weather coming in, the dogs become a little over-zealous in the barn at night!  The critters that come out at night are more abundant, and the dogs love to perch on their tables like night watchmen and stare out their windows at what they see as potential intruders.  Keeps them entertained for sure, but there is one problem…They have a hard time keeping quiet!
  • It doesn’t bother us that much, but we do a couple neighbors nearby.  One in particular is right next door.  She is a nice lady and tolerates a lot, but we respect her need for quiet.  Solution?  I need to close their window at night.  Haven’t done it yet, but that could happen soon.
  • For the most part, our dogs have been wonderful in that regard.  Ninety percent of the time they are quiet as church mice and sleep through the night.  It’s mostly only when the creepers come out at night.

Enjoy your week!!
