Every year in the spring, it seems there is a week weather-wise that we’d all just as soon forget.  This past week was one of those weeks.  After opening all the barn windows last week, this week decided to relentlessly blow cold air and rain into them.  For the most part, the dogs didn’t mind, but I did put the plexiglass back up for the stall with the puppies.  They weren’t too fond of the elements.

Mylah’s puppies are now three weeks old.  Both are sold.  They are…shall we say…a little chubby!  The fewer the puppies, the more mother’s milk there is to go around.  With only two, it is a king’s feast!  With this litter, we are going to have to take extra measures to limit the food intake.  Probably separate them from mama much more often, and earlier.

Rose is really looking like it could be any day.  Stay tuned!  She might still be a week or so out, but as a precaution, she was moved into the birthing stall.  Mylah and pups have been moved down one.  As soon as they are born, and we have a head count plus genders and colors, we will begin to contact those on the waiting list.

Because of this past week’s less than desirable weather, the spring barn cleaning was postponed a week.  Hopefully, next weekend will provide us with some better weather.

Sunday was a nice day, although a little chilly.  The wind was a little on the stronger side, and it really created a chill.  The dogs didn’t mind though.  They spent many long hours out today.  Other than Mylah and Rose, who went out a little earlier, all the dogs were out together today.  Sixteen dogs were all out and having fun for a long time!

As is usual, I like to spend time simply observing them and watch for behaviors and anecdotes.  I noticed a couple things that I felt were worth noting…At one point, after they had been out for a while, 11 dogs were laying around and resting.  Five were still running around.  Those 5 were:  Kallen, Czar, Lula, Chance, and Josie.  Any guesses as to what these 5 have in common?  That’s right, they are all crackheads!  Led by crackhead-in-chief Kallen, sons Czar and Chance, as well as daughters Josie and Lula were running tirelessly.  We’ve always said offspring of Kallen are a little more playful.

The second thing I noticed, as I was tossing small snacks over to them, some would bounce and land near the electric strip around the base of the fence.  Putting it simply, the fence is doing it’s job.  Not one got zapped.  They all knew to stay away and not even the lure of a snack would make them get too close.  I was nice and got it for them.

Tonight is definitely a charcoal grill kind of night.  With some nice steaks.  And of course, that means liver for the dogs on the same grill will soon follow.  I am fairly sure they can sense it!

Tasty Liver!!
