The grip of old man winter has finally loosened, and the sights, sound, and smells of Spring are in the air!  It was a relatively mild winter, but it was still winter nonetheless.  We can now turn our focus to the projects and activities that arrive with the warmer weather:

  • To start things off, we say goodbye to the large number of puppies that arrived this winter.  Mylah, Nadia, Ember, and Miya all had litters within 10 days of each other, and we are now in the final stages of them going to their new homes.  Only 4 of the 28 pups remain with us at this point.  Of those 4, 2 will remain with us, one will be exchanged for a new male, and the final one will remain with us for another week until his new owners return from vacation.
  • We will follow these 4 litters with another 3, which we are anticipating around Memorial Day.  We believe Rose, Josie, and Ice to be pregnant.  When we can confirm, we will give further details.
  • As mentioned above, we are keeping 2 of the pups.  We are expanding the pack by 6 Huskies this year!  As mentioned in a previous post and on Facebook, we welcomed Ice and Skye a couple months back.  They are doing well, and we believe Ice to be pregnant as of this writing.  Skye is likely not too far behind.  The 2 puppies we are keeping are Willow and River.  Willow is the only female from Ember’s litter, and since we had to fix Ember due to complications, we decided to keep her girl.  We want to continue Holly’s bloodline for years to come!  River is from Mylah, and just decided that she would be the additional female that we wanted for this year.  We also traded one of Mylah’s females for a male from the outside.  We will name him Xander, and will be exchanging pups this coming weekend.  Finally, we are looking into another addition, a 9-month old male named Blu.  He looks to be the perfect addition as we are looking for another male in addition to Xander.  This allows us to keep our own females, and continue bloodlines without crossing them.  This will also allow us to retire Demon and Denali in the not-to-distant future.  We are waiting for his AKC paperwork to come through.  At this point, that is the main hold up.  More details on Blu to come if we get those issues resolved.
  • Because of all of the added pups, it’s now time to also focus heavily on expansion projects.  The first phase is already underway with the arrival of the new tool barn and the cement forms in place for the stall expansion.  The new tool barn will finally allow us to gain a significant amount of space in the main barn, as well as preserve the tools and equipment that are being heavily compromised in the dust and dirt of the main barn.  Once the concrete is poured and set, wall construction will begin on 4 new stalls.  Later this summer, we hope to begin the process of replacing the fence out back, as well as adding another section for “retired” dogs.  Additionally, we then intend to connect the new fences to the barn, giving the dogs more of a free run.

  • On the poultry front, with the large number of projects upcoming and in process, we decided to take a year off turkey-wise.  We still have plenty in the freezer, and figure it’s plenty for now.  We will be raising chickens this year, but not until a little later on, and likely only one round of 25.  Perhaps next year we will go back to the larger numbers and both birds.
  • Finally, with the growth of the farm, and the increasing number of members of the Frosty Meadow Family, we feel this is a good time to return to more regular updates of this blog.  It won’t be a daily thing like it was a while back, but somewhat regular nonetheless.  Many of you that have been with us for some time might see some repeats, but that would be mainly due to the fact that it’s information worth repeating to those who didn’t see it the first time around.
