The Husky Report...5/12/15

It’s been a busy couple weeks since our last update! With spring and warmer weather in full gear, there are projects galore.
- We finally were able to move the manure pile and clean out the barn. It took most of last Sunday to accomplish, but it’s finally finished! The looks emptier than it has in quite some time!
- This will lead into the next step, which is adding the long overdue kennels. Along the west wall, we currently only have 1 in the corner. Our hope is that by summer’s end, there will be 5 along that wall.
- Mylahs pups are now over 5 weeks old, and are completely weaned. They will be going to their new homes Memorial Day weekend!
- As expected, Rose had her puppies one week ago today! She had seven total. Two all-white, and 5 red and white. All are doing well! We are in the process of contacting our waiting list.
- With two litters at once, and a shortage of stall space, we are trying a new idea. For the summer, or at least until the stalls are complete, we are letting 2-3 barn dogs stay out in the fenced area all the time. Having the fenced area escape proof has provided us with that luxury. Last week it was Phoenix, Demon, and Denali’s turn, this week it’s Kallen and Mylah. So far, it’s worked out well. They seem to enjoy it!
- The ducks and turkeys are getting bigger and bigger! The ducks are now out in a new pen, and the turkeys will soon also be. Right about this time is when we also choose our fair birds and separate them. They then get fed a special higher protein diet to help growth. We will separate 6 in all, but only 2 get to go to the fair. The others will be our back ups.
- This past weekend we had a medical assembly line! It was time for all of their flea treatments, plus it was time for their rabies vaccination. When you have as many dogs as we do, this is a time consuming process!
- Nothing says Spring like the arrival of the June bugs. Never did like these things, but the dogs love them! They like to leap and try to catch them, and when they do I turn my head. Apparently, they taste good too. (ugh)
- Finally, we are happy to report that Vader, from Miya and
Denali’s 2012 litter, found a great home.
Here are a couple pictures with his new buddy Kato. Kato was from Chance and Nadia’s litter from
2014.
