Memorial Day has come and gone.  Frosty Meadow Husky Farm honors all those who have served our great country, especially those who lost their life in defense of our freedom!

  • This Memorial Day weekend was a very big one for us.  Our daughters, Jenna and Meranda, both graduated from high school!  Time has sure flown.  It’s time for them to begin the next chapter of their lives, as Jenna heads off to Walsh University to study Physical Therapy, and Meranda will be staying closer to home and start her college life locally at Edison Community College.  She will be pursuing an Equine Veterinarian career.  She chose to stay close to home to continue to work with her horse.
  • That leaves only Zachary.  He will be in the 8th grade next fall.
  • Rose’s puppies will be 6 weeks old tomorrow.  They are fully weaned and go in for a vet check early next week.  They will be ready to go shortly thereafter!  We will start to schedule pickups soon.
  • All of the pups were out playing the other day, along with Phoenix, Nadia, Chance, Akira, and Holly.  We were concerned that the bigger dogs might try to play rough, but it was actually Phoenix who was the little brute!  She went on the offensive with one of them, and I grabbed her and gave her a little smack on the rear and said, “NO!”  When I put her down, she ran off, stopped, turned and gave me a look that would melt the hide off a Billy Goat!  Then she ran off and started playing again.
  • She reminds me a lot of Nadia at that age, only a little bigger.  A while back, in the “Cartoon Alter Ego” section of this blog, I wrote about Nadia being compared to Tinkerbell.  Phoenix is very similar!
  • The Ducks and Turkeys are definitely getting bigger.  The turkeys are probably over 20 lbs, and the biggest ones are getting ready to go through the growth phase.   We will be giving those birds a special high-protein supplement along with their regular food.  These are the show birds getting ready for the fair.  We hope the males top 50 lbs.
  • This weekend, we are holding the graduation party for the above mentioned girls.  It will also serve as our annual hog roast, but this year we will be doing things a little differently.  Instead of the normal whole hog roasting, we will be buying several pork shoulders and giving them our own spice rub recipe, followed by a slow smoking/cooking.  We have had a few trial runs, and it is absolutely wonderful!  We are considering this same recipe for our Husky Reunion.
  • I am slowly, but surely working on updating the website with picture contributions, plus formatting every page the same.  I am about half way done with the formatting, (adding the backgrounds to the text and photos), and then hope to work on other ideas that I want to add.  I am sorry for the time it’s taking!  I appreciate your patience!
  • It won’t be long and they will be cutting our hayfield.  It is about waist/chest high and my guess is they will cut in the next week or two.  It’s a good thing because the loft is almost empty!
  • Hopefully, over the next month or so, I will be purchasing the lumber to start the horse lean-to.  This is a necessary project to allow for expansion inside the barn for the dogs.  Once I get it rolling, it shouldn’t take more than a couple weeks to finish.
