Almost a month has gone by since the last blog post…already!

Up until this week, we have had a very nice spring.  This week has been a dose of reality, but overall I have been able to accomplish a lot on the new stalls.  As of the last blog post, we had 2 completed, with a third almost complete.  As of now, there are still only 2 complete, but 3 more are almost there and the framing for the final 2 on the east side is underway.  Arrangements have been made to begin the cement floor which will be done in 2 phases.  The first will likely be done in either August or early September, with the second phase around a month later.

The first of our summer pups have arrived!  Luna had a litter of 4 pups on April 26th.  Xander is the father.  Luna’s litter was a rare situation.  We suspected her to be pregnant, but simply were not sure about it.  She went into heat a couple months ago, and we paired her with Xander, but never witnessed a mate.  As we normally do, we made sure that Luna was never with any other male for the duration so if she ended up pregnant, we knew who the father was.  We didn’t want to announce that we believed her to be pregnant, simply because we weren’t certain.  Her heat cycle seemed very early, and we thought it could be false.  Well, she surprised us.  About 2 weeks before the birth, she started the signs as they normally do, so we were more certain then.  She had 4 pups, 3 little girls and 1 little boy.  All are gray and white, but one female is a much darker gray to even black and white.  These pups are all either sold or are sale pending.

The next in line is Ice.  Her heat cycle has started, and with her we can say we actually witnessed a mate.  Kallen is the father.   We expect her pups to arrive around the 4th of July, with them going to their new homes in early September.  Any time now, we also expect Josie, Willow, River, and Aleu to have their cycles.  A month or two after them, Ziva and Ellie.

Luna’s pups are actually part of Zach’s SAE project.  To see the pups, you can go to www.zachshuskies.yolasite.com/puppies

This is his first litter for his sophomore year, but River’s upcoming litter will be part of it as well.

The microchips are officially in place for all of our dogs.  For the most part, it was an easy process.  A few of them made it more difficult, but most just took it in stride.

A couple tidbits on the humorous side:

Holly has always been and still is one of our smarter huskies.  Even in her declining years, she seems to just figure things out.  Her latest gem is the fact that has figured out how to drink form the refrigerator water dispenser!  Maybe it’s her way of letting us know that we are slacking on filling the water bowl, but she just hops up and pushes the arm and drinks the water as it squirts into her mouth.

“The rain, rain, rain, comes down, down, down, in rushing little rivlets…The rain, rain, rain, comes down, down, down, and rushed right into piglets”  With all this recent rain, I am reminded of the “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” cartoon.  Many streams and ponds are forming all over the yard.  Specifically, all of the holes the dogs have dug are full of water.  The Land of 10000 Lakes has nothing on our back yard right now!
