Graduations are in the books, and summer is underway.  Summer tends to be a much busier time for most, and we here at the farm aren’t any different!

  • Rose’s puppies are almost all in their new homes.  Only 2 remain with us, due to the special arrangements we made for pickup.  One family is on vacation until next week, and the other (Rob and Tonya) are set to arrive the weekend of the 21st.  Congratulations to Rob and Tonya on the birth of their son Wyatt!  So far, the report has been that Cheyenne has been a very good big sister.  Hopefully, the new pup will be the same!
  • Next in line is Holly.  She is really starting to get big.  As with Daisie, this will be Holly’s final litter.  Daisie will be going in Thursday for her spaying.  They have both been great mama’s!
  • Following Holly will be Aleu and then Miya.  The father of Holly’s litter is Denali, while the father of the other two is Kallen.
  • Our plan is to have a retirement party for Holly and Daisie.  We haven’t decided on the details, and whether or not it will be a combined party or individual.  It will be a separate occasion from the reunion.
  • Speaking of the reunion, we will soon be posting on Facebook the dates for everyone to vote on.  Stay tuned!!
  • Chance was in the vet’s office last week for his neutering.  He is still not quite right, but he is getting better.  He has had a difficult time with it for sure!
  • The fair is getting closer and closer!  We weighed the show turkeys, and the Toms (males) are 22 and 24 lbs.  The hens are 17-18 lbs.  Now starts the extra high protein part of the diet.  They will likely double their weight by fair time.  The other turkeys won’t get as much of the protein packed food, but will likely get some.  We will hold their weight to 20-30 lbs.  We expect the arrival of our meat chickens soon.  We will also be feeding some the them the high octane feed, but with fair chickens the weight limit is 7 lbs.  So we have to watch it.  Our own meat birds will hopefully bump up to 10 lbs.    This by the way is done all naturally.  No growth hormones etc.  One of the reasons we like to pack our freezer full of our own birds!
  • We have 4 baby kittens if anyone wants them!  Free for the taking!!
  • One the lighter side, I leave you with a couple pictures….
  • The first is Holly and Phoenix begging for Zach’s sunflower seeds.

  • The second is Holly actually eating one!  That girl will eat anything!  She ate a lot of them!  And always wants more when Zach and I have them.

  • The final picture is showing Billy enjoying the lazy, hazy, crazy, days of summer on the farm!

Everyone enjoy their week!
