The Husky Report, St. Patrick's Day Edition

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Get out your green attire and drink a toast!
- It's been very busy the last few weeks! Our apologies for the lack of recent updates. All four of our anticipated winter litters were born! 28 pups in all.
Mylah had 7 pups -- 1 Male and 6 Females
Nadia had 7 pups -- 6 Males and 1 Female
Ember had 3 pups -- 2 Males and 1 Female
Miya had 11 pups (!) -- 4 Males and 7 Females
All are well!
- Ember had complications, and this will be her final litter, so we are keeping her female to continue her and Holly's Bloodline.
- This is also Miya's final litter. She will be retired, after 6 litters. She has been a wonderful mother!
- Recently added to the pack: Ice and Skye! They will each soon have their own page with pictures and their story, but they came to us from Nashville TN, where their previous owner could no longer care for them. They are a little over a year old, and are sisters. They are beautiful girls, both are mostly white. Ice has a silver back, and Skye has a light red back.

- In addition to keeping Ember's female puppy, which will be named Willow, we are also keeping one of Mylah's females. (Possibly named River, but not certain yet) We also are trading one of Mylah's females for a black and white male. This male will be named Xander.
- Our next male that we are hoping to get this year will be named Tundra.
- Spring is around the corner, so project season will be underway soon! The plan is to start with the new stalls in the barn, and then follow with the tool barn and fence expansion. This is one of the slowest times of the year. Waiting for not only warmer weather, but also getting beyond the sloppy season of early spring.
- We’ve recently changed Holly’s food regimen. We switched her to a grain free diet, and are limiting her to only meat when we feed her anything beyond her Kibble. Her kibble is now “4-Health” Grain Free Formula. The reason for this is she recently had a minor seizure. We did a lot of research, and found out a few interesting things. We discovered that a dog that has a zinc deficiency can have a myriad of problems, including seizures. While we are not certain this is the cause, we thought it was worth investigating. It was also noted that giving your dog a diet full of grains, which most dog foods have, can cause their body to pass the zinc through without being absorbed. This in turn causes a deficiency many times. We will see how she does. If we notice a difference, we plan to convert the rest of our dogs as well.
- Chalk this one up in the “Husky’s can be very humorous” category…Along with the sogginess of early Spring, we also get the high winds at times. Since we had corn in the field across the street last year, we have a large number of corn stalk and leaf remnants still blowing around the yard. They provide a sizeable amount of entertainment for the dogs, and subsequently us. Like small carefree children chasing bubbles or butterflies around the yard, the dogs chase these things around for hours on end. The funniest part is when one catches a leaf, the others chase him/her around in an attempt to steal it. Never a dull moment!
