Vet Check Today!
..and other tidbits as the days grow longer and warmer!
· Holly’s puppies are off to the vet today. Once they pass their physical and we administer their shots, they will be ready for pick-up! Pick-ups will start Friday, May 3rd. Between Friday and Monday, we currently have 6 scheduled pick-ups, with the other 3 still pending.
· Next week, we will follow up with Aleu’s pups. As of today, they are now all sold!! Thanks to all the new puppy owners!
· With warmer weather coming in, the dogs become a little over-zealous in the barn at night! The critters that come out at night are more abundant, and the dogs love to perch on their tables like night watchmen and stare out their windows at what they see as potential intruders. Keeps them entertained for sure, but there is one problem…They have a hard time keeping quiet!
· It doesn’t bother us that much, but we do have a couple of neighbors nearby. One in particular is right next door. She is a nice lady and tolerates a lot, but we respect her need for quiet. Solution? I have to close the barn windows at night.
· For the most part, our dogs have been wonderful in that regard. Ninety percent of the time they are quiet as church mice and sleep through the night. It’s mostly only when the creepers come out at night.
· I suppose one good thing about that is the coyotes stay away. Our cats and chickens can run freely because the coyotes won’t come near us.
· Soon it will be project time. The first major project of the spring/summer will be the new lean-to for the horses in their pasture. This enables us to remove them from the barn, and expand to add more stalls for the dogs.
· Update on Chance…He continues to improve. His appetite is huge! Unfortunately, it is much larger than the amount of food he can handle. As of now he eats roughly every hour, except overnight when he eats about every three hours. He can only ingest about a tablespoon of formula and about a teaspoon of canned dog food (the paste kind, 4-Health brand). Any more, and he vomits it back up.
· It doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a lot more than he could before. His problem now is his esophagus is enlarged up to the area where it was constricted. So it bottlenecks there. Over time this should even out, and if it doesn’t, it might require another surgery down the road. Our vet didn’t want to do it during the last surgery because it would have been too much to handle all at once. Hopefully it will normalize on its own and surgery down the road won’t be needed.
