After a couple weeks of snow and cold, we are now set for a rainy melt off. It happens a couple times a year. One big rain and a couple days of warmer temps, coupled with a melting snow pack, leads to flooding. Here at the farm, The corner stall, as well as the horse stalls, are in the line of fire. They tend to get wet and eventually puddle up. It's Equine Fresh to the rescue. Equine Fresh is a brand of horse bedding, ostensibly made to absorb moisture from horse stalls. It is simply pine pellets, that work wonders for us. We pour bags of them into the puddles, and it pretty much takes care of the problem.
Today is Aleu's 4th birthday, born 12-18-09. Aleu has had two litters so far. With Demon once, (Onyx, Kayda, Dega, and Apache), and Denali once (Mila, Hemlock, Tyberius, and Riley).
Next week marks the one year anniversary of Peyton's death. Two days before Christmas last year, Peyton and 3 others were in the corner stall and jiggled open the door. The normally bolted door was left unbolted that day, and the 4 got out. Peyton was hit by a pick up truck and didn't survive. We were able to corral the others, but Not Peyton. We miss her!
If that wasn't enough, two days later, on Christmas Day, Eddie our house cat of 12 1/2 years passed away. It was a sad couple of days!
Nothing new to report on the Daisie front. She'll get there! Things happen on Mother Nature's schedule, not ours. It appears as if Miya is going into heat, but we are skipping her this time around.
