The summer rolls on...Here's the latest!
  • Miya's time is coming soon!  The long anticipated wait for her puppies is almost here.  Likely, it will be in the next week or so.  We will keep everyone informed here, on the puppy page, and on Facebook as that day arrives.
  • Miya is a little strange when it comes to birthing her puppies.  We have a nice comfortable carpeted area for them during the birth and nursing of the puppies, and most of them love it.  Miya however, prefers to dig a hole.  I know this is natural to them, but the others prefer the comfortable birthing area more.
  • Normally, this is just during labor.  She will accept the carpet for nursing etc.
  • Tomorrow, we bring all the animals home from the fair.  The horses are already home.  (Subject for a different day)  The ducks and chickens come home and the 2013 fair is in the books.
  • Maybe then I will get caught up on farm chores.  Just the little things like pulling weeds and trimming edges.  It's amazing how fast those things get away from you when you neglect them.  Ugh!
  • It won't be long, it will be time for hay cut #3.  Likely another 50-60 bales for us.  No idea where I am going to put them!
  • Soon it will be time to bring Chance in to the vet for his Barium Swallow test.  We are curious to see where everything stands now.  He is doing great!   He is almost as big as Nadia!  Nadia looks to be topping out around 36-37 lbs.  It will be interesting to see if Chance gets bigger.  Currently he is around 25 lbs.
  • Nadia is small, but completely normal and healthy.  We will likely let her have puppies of her own.  We will definitely let the vet examine her first to make sure she is built for the rigors of birth.
  • The puppy plan for the rest of the year and next year is as follows:
Miya will be the last litter of 2013.
Daisie, Winter of 2014, undecided of the Father.
Rose, Late Winter of 2014, Kallen the Father
Holly, Spring of 2014, undecided on the Father
Aleu, Miya, & Nadia, Summer/Fall 2014.  Demon or Denali with Aleu, Kallen with Miya, and Kallen with Nadia
  • We will likely be retiring Holly after this litter.  We anticipate keeping one or two females from her litter.
Until next week!  As I said, we will keep everyone up to date on Miya's progress.
