Sheba
In the summer of 2010, we received
an email wondering if we take in rescues.
We took in Akira earlier, and we decided we could still handle one
additional Husky. Rescuing Huskies is
something we hope to one day do more of, but currently are very limited. We currently will take in puppies that
came from us and try to re-home them, and be selective for all others.
But back to Sheba. At that time,
we thought she would be a good fit as a second house dog. Her owners came all the way up from Georgia! Sheba was about 9 years old at the time, and
was starting to need additional care that they were struggling to provide. She had mild-moderate arthritis, and had some
troubles getting around. She liked to
get out and walk, or just be outside, but didn’t like long walks. We gave her a daily glucosamine tablet, and
that seemed to help. For the most part,
Sheba kept to herself. Akira tried to
play with her, but mostly there was little interest. The two got along well, and liked to “hang
out” together.
In 2012, Sheba developed a tumor on
her leg, and continued to worsen, even after a couple procedures to remove
it. It grew quickly to the size of a
baseball, and the vet determined that it was in her bone and the only way to
stop it was to amputate. After that,
Sheba was never the same. It was still
spreading, and her quality of life was very low because of the continuous pain
and bleeding issues. It was decided then
that it would be best to put her to sleep.
Sheba was put down on October 12th
of 2012. She is missed by all, but felt this was
easily the right choice.
